Message from the President's Desk

Greetings!
We are embarking on another exciting year. There is much to hope for and there
is much to celebrate. In particular, 2008 marks the Twenty-fifth Anniversary of
the Jamaica Nurses Association of Florida (JNAF). Our existence and survival
have been possible through the foresight of JNAF’s founder Joyce Harris-
Wright, and founding members. The combined tireless efforts of successive
Presidents, other leaders, ardent supportive members and well-wishers have all
brought us to this celebratory year. With this in mind, 2008 will highlight
“Thanksgiving and Nurturing” in everything we do.
I congratulate and thank those members who have remained faithful and
supportive throughout JNAF’s transition and growth over the past 25 years.
You have led by example, and we value your expertise, patience and wisdom.
To all our well-wishers, thanks for your positive support in fundraising,
donations, networking, your expressions of care and your commitment to our
purpose and to our ideal that “Together We Achieve.”
In this spirit of gratitude JNAF sends special thanks to Parkway Baptist Church
who accommodates us for choir practice and other activities in many instances at
short notice; to Jackson North (formerly Parkway Medical Center) where our
monthly meetings and seminars are held; and to A+ Mini Storage, Southwest
117 Avenue that provides storage space for our donated supplies for packing
and distribution. JNAF has enjoyed these valuable services free of charge and
we are immensely grateful.
To all our members, I urge you to continue to take pride in representing and
working for JNAF. Over the years this Association has remained aware of and
constant to its tenet philosophy and mission (that of caring) which is still relevant
and needed even more so in today’s competitive, dynamic and ever-changing
technological society. JNAF has demonstrated in very practical ways that we
care. We have done so through education, donations, providing voluntary
healthcare locally and abroad, networking with other organizations to promote
their goals and ideals, supporting each other in happy and sad times, travel,
JNAF Choir performances--the list is endless!
In the quest to effectively carry out its mission, JNAF will embark on a venture
with the Sickle Cell Foundation - Dade Chapter, during 2008. We will continue
working with The American Cancer Society, The Kiwanis Club of South Dade,
and with the various other projects to which JNAF has been committed over the
years.
In 2003 JNAF was granted 501(c) 3 tax-exempt status, which diversified the
membership criteria, provided variety, added new dimensions to the meaning of
membership, and new opportunities for fundraising. This diversity has widened
our scope of thinking, fostered personal growth, and continues to offer an
educational experience to us all.
JNAF invites and welcomes new memberships. The membership drive is an
ongoing activity with the realization that each new committed member strengthens
our expertise, diversifies our support base, and broadens our scope of
effectiveness.
The 2008 JNAF elected officers, board members, members and I look forward
to an exciting and fulfilling year with your continued support and Gods guidance.
Please visit the JNAF web pages view the calendar of events and join us in our
various activities throughout the year. We will continue to update you on our
plans, and how you, our members, friends and funders, are contributing to our
progress.
In the spirit of thanksgiving and nurturing,
Constance B. Ffrench-Harding, MSN, ARNP-C
President
